It’s that time of year again: school is getting ready to start up and you need to start preparing your children for success! New clothes, some fresh shoes, and a new backpack that’s still in one piece are probably all on the agenda, but what about a healthy smile? It’s important to keep your young ones healthy, so don’t neglect their dental health! At Panama City Smiles, we can help your family be 100% prepared for the busy months ahead!

Whether your child is ready to start orthodontic treatment, simply needs an exam and cleaning, or has outgrown their athletic gear, we’re ready to help!

Straight Teeth: No Better Time To Start!

It’s a common question for parents to ask dentists and orthodontists: when should I get my child started in braces? Because teeth grow in at a different rate for everyone it’s hard to provide one answer to this question, but the generally accepted age is anywhere between 10 and 14, though it’s always best to schedule a consultation to be sure the time is right!

If your child is in the ideal window for braces you should make sure to take advantage of it while you can! Braces are best done when a patient is young because their bones are still growing, making it easier to reposition teeth faster. This also helps ensure a more permanent smile later in life!

Early dental treatment can also help your child feel more confident early in life – braces can come on and off in two years, meaning that a child treated younger will find the self-assurance that a great smile brings years earlier!

We’d love to see you and your child at our Panama City office soon! We’ll work hard to make your first orthodontic experience a good one!

Maintain a Healthy Smile With Preventive Care!

Your child’s baby teeth are very important – far more than you may realize! It might seem like preventive dental care isn’t the most important thing for you child – those baby teeth fall out, after all. In fact, your child’s first set of teeth are fundamental in making sure their adult teeth come in properly. A prematurely lost tooth can mean disaster for your child’s smile!

It’s important to not just worry about adult teeth, and preventive care for your children is just as important as it is for you! You should start working on preventive care for your child as soon as they get their first tooth – you can save a lot of money later on with early treatment!

Preventive services include care measures like cleanings and exams, fluoride treatment, and sealants, each designed to protect the health of teeth both young and old!

Stay Sports Ready With The Best Gear!

Do you have a child in sports? You probably worry about your all-star a bit – are the doing well, learning to play as a team – are they going to get hurt? If your child plays high-impact sports like football or hockey you don’t spare any expense to keep them safe with the best gear, so why skimp on the mouthguard?

Did you know that mouthguards are a major part of preventing concussion? Your teeth are very important, so saving them is important too, but the primary concern is the concussive force that can be suffered when your teeth slam into your jaw!

Over-the-counter mouthguards can definitely help, and of course a little protection is always better than none. The problem with these mouthguards is that the just don’t fit right! Add to that the fact that they can make breathing more difficult, fall out easily, and are ugly, and there’s just not a good reason to prefer them over a custom-made sports mouthguard!

To work properly a mouthguard has to be fit just for the person wearing it, which we can do at Panama City Smiles! Dr. Patel uses a mold of your teeth to make a custom mouthguard that can be built to your exact specifications! These mouthguards will help your child breathe easier, play harder, and play safer than they can with any standard model!
