Growing up isn’t always easy, especially if you have bad teeth. If you were fortunate enough to never need braces count yourself lucky! Even if you were gifted with great teeth it doesn’t mean your children will be. If they didn’t inherit your winning smile you should definitely start thinking about braces.
Orthodontic treatment is often an essential part of growing up. If you needed braces as a child you know how glad you are to have had them – you’re able to live with a beautiful smile now all because you spent a couple of years making them perfect. We’d love to give your child the chance to have a great set of straight teeth – it’s one of the best gifts you can give them!
No Child Wants Braces, Right?
Metal mouth, brace-face, dweeb – there’s all kinds of mean names that are associated with having braces. Many parents aren’t sure if they want to put their children through the discomfort and humiliation of braces. We all know kids can be mean and you don’t want to subject your children to teasing if you don’t have to.
But think past that for a minute – we haven’t had a single orthodontic patients, young or old, who has regretted their treatment once it was over. Sure there’s some discomfort and embarrassment while braces are on. There’s also a lifetime of perfect smiles once they’re off.
A lot of parents worry about getting braces for their child too late, and while there isn’t any time that’s too late for orthodontics it can be easier to start them while your child is young.
Braces For Your Child: When Is The Right Time?
When it comes to correcting your smile the way to do it is a lot like caring for your teeth: preventive care can go a long way. While you don’t need to worry about cavities from not seeing the orthodontist you do need to worry about longer, more difficult procedures as your child’s bones become more solid.
We recommend that all children visit Panama City Smiles for an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. This is the perfect time for our team to start noticing issues that may need braces to correct, and in many cases we can start treatment at that point as well. Orthodontic treatment can take a while, so we recommend taking care of it as early as possible!
In many cases the problems we detect with a thorough exam won’t be immediately visible, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there! We use a series of X-rays and digital images to get a precise look at your child’s mouth, allowing us to predict problems and plan treatments that are more efficient, easier, and faster.
Orthodontic Options: You Have Them!
if you’re worried that you child might be stuck wearing high-visibility metal braces for year we might be able to help. Many patients are able to benefit from alternative orthodontic treatments that are far less visible than traditional ones!
- Ceramic braces have all the benefits of traditional orthodontics without practically any of the visible metal. We use ceramic brackets and tooth-colored wires that are almost completely invisible, leaving your child with a straighter smile minus the embarrassment.
- Lingual braces avoid being visible through a completely different means: they’re placed on the back sides of your teeth! Made of specially designed brackets, lingual braces will straighten your child’s smile without any visible metal or wires – a perfect solution!
- ClearCorrect is a clear plastic aligner system that will give your child the benefit of completely invisible braces that can still be removed for eating and oral hygiene. While they may not be suitable for much younger patients ClearCorrect can still be great for teens and young adults.
